What ever you do, don't skip the home inspection. It likely will cost you between $350 and $550, but it can save you a fortune.

Agreed, the home inspection is invaluable. It gives you 1 hour + to spend in the property with someone who meticulously evaluates it from top to bottom (i.e. it makes a lot of sense for the Buyer to attend the entire inspection). It's also important to keep in mind that no property is "perfect".
